corcovado dominical

fter a boot trip through the Sierpe River Delta which is the largest conservation area of mangrove swamps in Central America you will reach the Corcovado National Park. National geographic magazine described this area as “Biologically, the most intense place on earth”. You will be guided on your hike trough the park by extremely knowledgeable bilingual naturalist guides, who will help you discover the secrets of this amazing and unique habitat.

Protecting approximately 54,539 hectares of humid rain forest and 2,4000 hectares of ocean, Corcovado National Park has become an international attraction since it was founded in 1975. The Park is home of the largest population of Scarlet macaws in the country and protects more than 500 species of trees (representing 25% of all tree species in Costa Rica), among which the biggest tree in the country; a "ceibo" higher then 200 feet. It is inhabited by 367 species of birds, 140 species of mammals and 116 species of amphibians and reptiles and 6000 species of insects. 6 natural eco-systems have been identified in the Corcovado park and it protects endangered species such as the jaguar, puma, crocodile, tapir, poison dart and golden frogs and the harpy eagle. The rain forest is also home to numerous plants and insects that can serve as valuable information to scientific and medical discovery. It is the best place in Costa Rica to catch a glimpse of the diverse wildlife that exists in the country. We will be departing early in the morning and drive south on the Costanera highway along the Pacific Ocean for about 90 minutes to get to Sierpe town, where we will take 30 minutes for breakfast in ¨Oleaje Sereno¨ restaurant. After breakfast we will be taking a comfortable boat ride for 90 minutes to Corcovado National Park through the biggest mangrove swamps in Central America. We will have the chance to spot up to 4 species of monkeys, crocodiles, snakes, a great variety of birds and also one of the biggest islands in Costa Rica ( Violines Island). From the Sierpe river mouth to the park you will get a view of the most scenic places in the country like Drake’s bay and Marenco Biological Reserve. Chances to spot the humpback, pilot and killer whales. When we get to the park you will be led by your professional guide on a 3-hour walk through one of the most fascinating primary forests in the country. When we come back to the rangers’ station, we will set up a delicious picnic lunch and then head back to Dominical.
